Buckhorn Real Estate Opportunities

Join the more than 6,500 relaxing waterfront property owners in the Buckhorn area.

Within the 2 -2 ½ hour drive of Toronto, Buckhorn offers a wide range and selection of cottage “locations” with features ranging from a basic cabin backing onto thousands of acres of Crown land to the large comfortable home. The prices also vary from $50,000 for leased property to over one million dollars for home-style retreats.

Besides the close proximity to the city, cottages come with different topography and lakes. We have the larger Trent Waterway system that allows you to boat to the ocean if you wish, or the smaller upland lakes with a more undeveloped, bush feel.

Fishing is one of the many attractions with trophy muskie, pickerel, lake trout and bass growing and hiding in different lakes. Winter offers miles of snowmobiling, skiing or lounging at the comfort of a fire in your own cottage or at the many resorts. This, all within 30 minutes of Peterborough and 2 hours of Toronto.

With the strong economy and higher number of retirees, demand for a cottage is and has been strong. As the population ages and extended families lean toward family retreats, it is anticipated that demand for waterfront property will increase even more. As an old sage said, they are not making any more lakes. We have as much supply as we are going to have.

Some of the basic questions that potential cottagers should ask themselves are: location, type of boating, swimming, view/outlook, access, rugged remote or urban, fish species, style and construction. Cottages, like most structures, can be altered to accommodate your personal wants, but the lake and view cannot be changed. Stone fireplaces can be added, but changing the view from eastern sunrise to western sunset cannot be accommodated.

Meet a knowledgeable local Realtor, search the web, stay at a local resort or B & B, enjoy the community and explore the local features, and then become a “Cottager”.
